Preforming the ‘Witches’ !!:)
It’s finally show day! Wednesday 20th October 2021. It’s only been a few weeks that we’ve been doing the Witches show however, I can’t imagine leaving this show behind. Our call time was 11am but I came in at ten so I could see everyone and rehearse. All morning I had an uneasy feeling that I’d forgotten part of my costume but it was all fine. We didn’t rehearse very much today it was more about setting up. Yesterday, we all got call times to be in the makeup room. I had to go and get my bald cap measured at 11:45 am, and they picked a size cap to put on my head. Then they tied my hair in a slick back low ponytail so no hair was sticking out then they put the cap on my head and marked where they needed to cut it. Then I went and warmed up and rehearsed. Then at 3pm we went back to makeup and they put our bald caps on. Because they had to put lots of glue on it was sticking to all our baby hairs and plucking them out haha, that was the only painful part about them. I expected them to be really itchy but the were actually okay. It was worrying how the bottoms of them kept un-sticking and showing of our hair just because we thought all of the audience would see but I think everything went great with them. I got to wear a really long (waist length) caramel/blonde wig which was very fun but also irritating because it was SO thick! It was also hard to find the right way to put it in my head so when we had to put them back on in the middle of a scene I accidentally put it on upside down. Ooos! But it was all good because I just improvised and played it off like it was part of the scene. Then I got my makeup done at 4pm and I was so shocked at how dramatic theatre makeup is. I’ve never seen that much bronzer on anyone in my life. However, when we were on the stage (from the photos I’ve seen) it doesn’t even look like we’re wearing bronzer it just vanished with the harsh lighting. I was completely amazed when I found out that we had sold out of tickets!!! Normally, when we do a show only around half the tickets were sold so we were really exited to have a full audience to preform to. I loved this crowd so much! They were so enthusiastic, they laughed at all the comedy lines and some people even cried at the sad lines which was so amazing. I’ve absolutely loved playing a witch because I find is so fun being all weird and dramatic. I’m sad that I won’t get to play the witch again but I am exited to be the doorman/ waitress tomorrow! :)
It’s show day two and everyone is exited. I already know what it’s like and what to expect after preforming yesterday. Today I’m being the doorman and it’s definitely a lot easier to get into costume because my doorman doesn’t need all the bald caps and wigs, she just needs a low ponytail which takes way less time haha. We rehearsed a few scenes and planned who was going to take the different props on and when just to make sure it all ran smoothly. If I’m being honest, trying to remember which props I brought on/off was one of the most stressful parts because I kept imagining the dinner scene that accidentally had the grandmothers chair in it or the tea cup and that would not be very good haha. I felt confident that I knew my lines as the doorman and knew what I had to be doing, but I was nervous I’d miss my que to come into the stage because it’s not all of the witches going on at the same time. I’m not going to lie, I really liked when I walked out into the stage on my own because I knew people were watching me preform and I like that haha. My favourite scene as the doorman/waiter is the very end scene when all the witches die. I like it because you can really just let yourself go and scream and run around. It’s just fun because it’s so hectic. I wore a knee length black skirt and a white shirt, paired with a long grey coat and black shoes with a ribbon tie for doorman. And for waiter I wore the same just I took the coat off and switched the ribbon for a bow tie. For the makeup today I still had the same thick base but I didn’t have the eye shadow just the eye m-liner. I did find it more exciting being a witch because you could be dramatic and weird. However, i still really enjoy being the doorman because it’s a completely different perspective of the show.
From doing the witches I’ve learned that I actually love theatre and I’m going to really work hard to get bigger roles in the shows to come. 🐈⬛🌙
(I’ll add more pictures when we get them back and upload the show video)
