Feature Film - Alice And The Cold Case

FEATURE FILM

ALICE AND THE COLD CASE

2021

We were first introduced to the feature film ‘Alice and the cold case’ that the film and tv were making a couple of weeks ago when Kelly said that we’d be able to audition for it and that it was 80s themed. She said it was about a homophobic murder that happened 15 years ago and was finally solved. Then we had a cold read with film and tv just so we could learn the story/characters and to see if we were interested and wanted to audition for it. I read for Sophie. I liked the character she is fun and a bit dumb, she was described as a gossip. However, when I was reading for her, I didn’t really feel the character was the best fit for me. I was more interested in Jean, she is the dead girls(Jenny) other friend who turns out to know more about that night  than she led on. She has a lot of depth and seems like a character you can really have a go at. She was very emotional but turned her sadness into anger and guilt. Then there was Jenny. The mysterious young girl who was found dead in Verity Park. Jenny is described as being popular and having no known enemies. And loving fashion. Even though Jenny died 15 years ago in the script and only had one speaking scene still from the First time they asked us what characters we were interested in I written Jenny. I just feel like she’s the most interesting and I really wanted to portray her.

Audition day

I learned my audition lines the night we got the scripts sent so all I had to work on was how I portrayed the lines. I did it differently every time I rehearsed it so when I went into the audition I just rolled the dice to see how I was going to do it hahaha. I was nervous I was going to forget my lines in there but I just pushed it away and trusted I’d prepared as much as I could. When I went into the room I almost finished my two page audition duologue when they asked if I could do my monologue at the end again but slower because I have a problem with talking fast when I get nervous ( I’ve been working on it J). So I did it again slower and then left. You really can’t tell what they’re thinking after you’ve auditioned, they have their faces the exact same wether you do good or bad so you really have no idea how they think your performance went. There was no auditions for Jenny because they hadn’t written her lines yet but I thought they might see a certain thing in Jean that they imagined Jenny having.

Cast

I got Jenny!!:) I’m very exited to play this mysterious character, although she doesn’t have many scenes or lines I’m exited to play her. I think the character has a VERY interesting story line that is more described than shown. After finding out the cast, I went home and read the whole script to really try and figure out Jenny’s personality and so I can get a clear view of her storyline. Kadie is playing Alice the detective, Megan is playing Maylee the reporter, Morgan is playing Jenny’s Uncle Charles (murderer), Hollie is playing Sylvie Jen’s mam, Henry is playing Richard Jenny’s boyfriend, Harley is playing captain, Jamie’s playing Chad and Mark is in it tooWe had a read through with the cast sons people couldn’t make it but everyone who was there gave an excellent performance and I think they got the casting spot on.

Jenny Marie Adelaide

Jenny is a mysterious and intriguing young girl. Although she doesn’t have much screen time in the movie, the movie is all about her murder. She will be a challenging character to play especially in the scene where she confesses her love to Jean (Emie’s Character), her vulnerability really shines through the script in that scene. I have to try and find a way to play it that will make sense that she is nervous and excited because she’s nervous that she has waited years to do this, trying to think of a way to tell Jean in hopes that she will accept her for who she really is because there’s a big chance this could all go south (which it did). Yet exited and has the smallest bit of hoped that she may feel the same that’s why she goes shopping and dolls herself up. She reminds me of Alison Diliaurentis; young, populardead with no knowing what happened, secretly in love with her girl best friend. Although Alison’s story is completely different, I still saw her in Jenny and it made me view her in a fun, deep , exiting way. Jenny is a girl with a big secret, she feared telling anyone for years and then when she finally did her dead body was dumped in the bushes of Verity Park

Filming

Filming has been pushed back a lot so I won’t be filming any of my scenes till the new year which gives me time to improve character development.
