Charlie /The lead up to the show and show week

                     Final week of rehearsals!!!

Monday:

Okay so today is the first day back after our five day isolation and we had a lot to work on. We only have five more rehearsals including today so we were trying to get as much done as possible. Today we went over all of the beginning of the play, that includes all of the bucket family scenes and all of the kids monologues. I was quite nervous to do my monologue because although I knew my lines  and been practicing during the holidays I felt like because we’d been off for 3 weeks when we come back it would all just crumble. I always felt like my monologue was boring but now because we’ve got the music and the props and me and kadie have figured out our characters more together, that there’s more to focus on than just what I’m saying. Me and kadie have worked a lot on how to make our characters more interesting so we try to jam pack every scene full of character. The set it starting to look more and more like Charlie and the chocolate factory and it’s getting very exciting now!!! See ya tomorrow ! :)

Tuesday:

Todayyyy, we rehearsed the scenes from Wonka’s entrance to the boat scene. And also A LOT more set has been built, loads more things have been painted and more things have been filmed for the projection and it really feels like the show is coming together. We’ve been rehearsing all our scenes with both casts but Holly has now got covid so I’ve been Filling in for her. I’m not sure if I’ll be Violet in cast two for the actual show because Holly might still test positive. Oo so today’s been the first day that we could try the boat scene because we’re using the Santa’s sleigh from elf but painting it purple and gold to match our theme instead so we had to wait for it to dry, but now we’ve tried it and it’s really cool. Only the four kids can fit in it with Willy Wonka so we’ve edited the scene to have the parents watching on the stairs instead. I like this scene I think it’s really fun. Kelly and Kieran have been editing the lights too so it’s fun to rehearse with that. I like working in the theatre, I wish we could do it all the time because it’s so much easier to do a scene and see how it’s supposed to look when we’re actually in the space we’re going to be doing it so I’m glad we pushed it back a week and get to be in here longer. We also rehearsed the scene that Jo written for the first time today and I like it, I think it works really well with the show and makes it feel more authentic because you see their first close up interactions with each other. I’m feeling so much better about the show now and I’m so exited to keep working on my character and rehearsing.

Wednesday:

I am very happy with what I’ve learned today! I finally learnt the Augustus dance that I’ve been dreading. It only took roughly ten minuets for us all to learn it so I was very surprised, i had built it up in my mind to be a professional level ten minuet performance or something haha but it was really easy actually. So now everyone except the people who are isolating have learnt their dances and we all feel better for it, I think that was one thing that people were really getting worried about but now it’s all good. And we rehearsed and blocked the invention room scene which is also Violet’s blueberry scene and I’m very exited about it. I think it a very fun scene to do which focuses a lot on body language and facial expressions so it’s always helpful to work on that. Overall feeling very happy about today and exited to rehearse again tomorrow !! :) oh no also my sister got COVID I’m going home, packing my bad and moving to Kadies until She tests negative.

Thursday:

It’s getting closer to the showww!!!!!:) Today we did more run throughs of both casts and we were sorting out more lights. Some people got Oompa Loompa makeup done and it looked REALLY good! It’s like you can tell they’re Oompa Loompas, but they’re not the same as the ones that have been done in the movies. Our Oompa’s wear colourful, fun clothes with a coloured wig and bright coloured makeup. Also Mark got to get his wig and makeup done for Mrs gloop and he wore his outfit aswell and it was amazing, he’s definitely going to be an audience favourite. Our last proper day of rehearsal is Monday but we still have the day of the shows to practice and I think we’ll be fine with that. They’re painting the floor from gold back to black to make the set pop more and so it will look nice and fresh. I’m feeling very happy about the improvements with my character and the show from this week, things just really fell into place. I think being in the theatre has really helped and I also think that our class works best when we haven’t got much time left lol. See you next week! :)

Monday:

Tomorrow is show day so that makes today very important. We had a full run through with lights, music, props and costume with Kelly giving notes to help us improve. From today I am confident that the show will be good, I think everyone is all in with their characters and, when they want to, can give the stage so much energy and life. Since me and kadie have known the blocking for our scene for a while now, we’ve just been building our characters so we can bounce off each other and always have something to do to entertain even when we have no lines. Holly ( the other Violet) said she won’t be able to come back this week which means she cannot do the show however, trinity who plays her mum is back. Now we’re in a bit of a pickle because my Violet is and all American character, with the American cheer outfit and the music and Oompa Loompa dance, however, Trinity’s Mrs Beauregard is chavy English with an outfit that linkes to mine 0%. So we don’t know whether to go English accent or American. Hmmm. I think if I had one day to completely change my character because I’ve changed half on my Violets lines to fit the American accent, it would challenge me but in a really good way that would definitely help me grow. I love playing Violet so much, I just feel like the script is so freeing because you can do literally anything with the lines. I’m looking forward to the show and I think it’s going to be good. I’ll talk to you tomorrow after our first show, eeeekkk!!!!!

First show day!! Surprisingly, I wasn’t that nervous to preform. I mean yea I was nervous but no where near as nervous as I was for the witches because that was my first show. And I feel like because we’d drilled the scenes so much in the past week I was confident that I knew what I was doing. Also, with all of the scenes there was always a way to save it if you or someone else forgot their lines. I think for the first show it went well. I remembered all my lines and so did everyone else. We did really well with shining under the pressure by adding way more personality to the stage. Megan improved extra lines and actions that I think were really good and entertaining. I think the Oompa Loompas were good in this cast however the Agustas dance was a bit of a mess, it was too complicated so people were messing up and it was also too long. The main thing we have to work on is my volume because a lot of the audience, Kelly and Kane said they couldn’t hear a lot of it which is unfortunate so we need to change that for the rest of the shows. I am proud of everyone and aim to do better tomorrow.

Second show day!! I was more nervous for this one because it’s with Trinity and we haven’t rehearsed together yet however I think we did okay for the first show. I adapted my character by bringing more makeup that I could use and put on her so we always have something to do as-well as taking pictures. After the scene where me, Tamara, Mark and Geoffrey do our monologues Kelly came behind the stage to tell everyone that we need to be louder. After that we were all much louder which was good. This show didn’t feel as energised as it should have been but it was probably because it was our first show with this cast. I didn’t feel proud of myself for this show, I just knew I could do a lot better. I think because it was 4 o’clock and the audience was quite quiet and small, we didn’t have the adrenaline or something. Everyone’s acting was good, it just didn’t feel like the energy was as high as we wanted it to be.

final show!! This show was by far the most energetic and exciting, we were all so pumped before, during and after. Just before the interval the fire alarm went off. jo made the best of a bad situation and joked that his factory was on fire, my parents pointed that out to me and said they thought that was funny. To be honest, it actually made me more exited to go back on after the fire alarm because we all had more energy because the audience were telling us how they liked it so far and we all got to talk to each other. then during the interval we were all given really good feedback from Kane saying how we were all really loud and everyone could hear us and then also that it was going really well in there eyes which means a lot and makes you really happy when you're about to go on. I was so proud of everyone after the show because it just felt like everyone was present and we were all just really proud of each other and we all felt so close. i am proud of my performance and I'm proud of how the whole class including film and tv student and Kelly and Kane worked together to create the show. so happy with this show and so exited for our next !!!
