 Character study 

Heidi Hanson

The character ive decided to study is Heidi Hanson the 40 year old mother of Evan Hanson because she is complex and goes a lot deeper than you'd expect. i think this character was affected a lot by Evans actions especially since she feels the guilt and blame is on her.

Steve Levenson (the writer of dear Evan Hanson) described the character as "overworked and stretched too thin., Heidi loves her son fiercely, but fears they have begun to grow apart. She is prepared to do anything to repair the damage."

Heidi was left by her husband and replaced with a younger woman. this left her to look after her seven year old alone. she didn't handle the divorce well. Evan said "sometimes i feel like my mom works so hard just so she can hold up an invisible cross-country middle finger to her younger replacement". Evan resents his mam for not spending enough time with him because shes always working. Heidi is a committed nurse but she takes night classes at the hospital on Sundays to avoid her being fired when the hospital has a budget cut. she wants to have a good relationship with her son but their distance is causing Evan to have built up anger towards her and it pushes them further away.
