ghost light tour - evaluation
On the first day I played Ivy Close the silent movie star. We started the day by going in and walking through where we would be doing everything. Then me and Emie went off and ran our scene together so we knew what we were doing in our space. Then we went to set up the little dressing room our scene would be set in. We added scarfs sand fur jackets. We added jewellery boxes and heels to really make it look like this was a place they often were and to show life and personality. I brought pearls and hairbrushes to put in the space to use as props in the scene.
Then we went to makeup. My makeup was me painted in full black and white to look like I was stuck in an old movie with makeup contoured with blacks greys and whites. I thought that was really cool and effective. The hair they did however, was nothing like they practiced it on Latoya. They styled Latoyas to be really beautiful like a movie star with loose curled pinned up. My hair was just in a low bun with a middle parting. I don’t think the hairstyle fit the character but the makeup artists were very busy as they had lots of hair and makeup to do so I’m guessing that’s why.
I wore black tights so they didn’t have to paint my legs, then I wore a long mesh sleeve, grey beaded mini dress. I think the dress fit the character beautifully. I wanted it to look vintage and be grey to match the black and white theme. It was an old dress of my mam’s so I didn’t have to buy a new costume.
I started off in a cupboard with a glass window to look like I was stuck in a screen because we didn’t have a projector to film the scene where I was stuck in a scene. I was banging on the glass miming for help and people jumped a little bit when they noticed me ahah. I had lots of fun doing that. Then when the people left the room I had to quickly run with Josh (Globe worker) we went in the lift and quickly went into the room before the guests did. Me and Emie improvised a scene to do whilst people were walking in to make the scene seem more natural and fun. I think it went really well. None of us broke character and it flowed really well. I do worry that I sometimes wasn’t loud enough so I need to keep that in the front of my mind for the next day. Then me, Emie Jack and Josh had to follow the guests down the stairs to our finale, we were improving small conversation. Emie was crying and my character was comforting her. Then for the finale it was mainly the wax figures but we had a part where we all unite and shout “leave, leave, leave”. I think this part was really good and impactful. It would’ve just been better if the wax figured were a bit more in time but it’s hard when they have masks on so they can’t see out of their provisional vision.
The next day Kelly asked me and Emie to be ghost cleaners last minute, of course we said yes because we really wanted to be involved. We were given a costume and went to makeup to get our makeup done. I actually really liked this makeup, I thought it was really cute and if it was socially appropriate to wear it all the time I would haha. It was black smudged eyeliner spread to look like dried tears. We were told where to go and to just slowly to sweep the floor whilst looking black and making eye contact. It was actually a really fun character to play because we got to get so close to the audience and interact.
There were so many good reviews about it online and we managed to get a double page feature on the magazine that the globe hasn’t been on in a long time!!!!
We’re all so proud of ourselves! It went so well that Josh from the globe is going to find more work for us! It’s even more rewarding that we created the story from scratch, it really is ours!
