Whitby Blog + Evaluation

 Whitby Blog

Last week, my acting class, makeup and film and TV came together and went on a two day trip to Whitby to make our horror movies. My class was divided into groups and we were shared out between the different groups of film-makers. I was put into Alex's group which I was happy about because i got 1/2 of the named characters. I was playing a centuries old vampire named Lilith that lives near the abbey in the old house. she meets a boy who helps her and in and returns the favour to him by scaring off a group of bullies.

We got to Whitby and went into makeup after hearing the plan for the day. my makeup west describes as scary glam by the makeup artist and it consisted of Smokey blue eyeshadow on a pale base with frowned eyebrows and blood dripping from the eyes. this was only needed for one scene because i wore a mask for the rest of the shoot.

There was lots of rain toward the end of the shoot which meant we needed  umbrella to stop the cameras so luckily someone had one. we had to change some of the storyline because there was a huge storm that made it unsafe to film outside for a lot of the first day. so we had to take out a fight scene. which meant we had to add a new location which was our hostel. this did change the story but it still made sense which was convenient.

On the second day of filming one of the actors, Harvey, sustained a head injury on set and had to go to hospital but luckily he was okay and we'd already filmed the scenes with him in.

Going away for a night to film somewhere on location was really really exciting and made me love film more. I feel like it really helped me grow and really helped me become more professional and become more adaptive to my surroundings and situations in film. It made me feel really responsible and professional how we woke up at a hotel where we had to be at makeup on set at a certain time because it made it feel like I was in something real. This trip brought me a lot closer to some of the actors and also helped me make connections with some of the film makers who have since casted me in their projects because of this trip. it was very good for networking.

I'm grateful for this opportunity as it really helped me grow and learn. I hope we can do it again in the future to progress further.

Evaluation

I think the movie looked great, it all worked despite them having to re write it all suddenly due to an unexpected storm. I think I could’ve done better if I didn’t have a mask covering my face all of the time but it does fit the movie. I’m very glad I got to help Alex on her first big project I had so much fun! I really enjoyed being on location because it felt so professional! I will cherish this memory!! I think Alex did absolutely amazing considering it’s her first movie and I’m really impressed by her editing skills as-well!!
